When you put too much food in your refrigerator or freezer, it makes it difficult for air to circulate to keep the food cold. This makes the motor work too hard, which can lead to failure. And if the motor fails, your food will spoil!

While we want to reduce our trips to the grocery store, packing both the refrigerator and freezer too full will likely lead to both food waste and possible failure of the motor and/or condenser.
