International Cat Day: Celebrating Pet-Friendly Living at MRG

Collage of 15 resident and MRG team cats arranged against a colorful abstract background.

It may be the dog days of summer, but this weekend, it’s all about cats.

Saturday, August 8, is International Cat Day, giving us the purr-fect excuse to celebrate the feline family members who make our homes happier, our camera rolls fuller and our furniture a little furrier.

At MRG, cat people are everywhere. Our corporate-office crew includes Panther and Benji, who keep Vaughn—our IT wizard—on his toes; Maxie, who helps Nancy manage the accounting team; Buttons and Izzy, who help Regional Property Manager Nikki manage things at home; and Oscar, who makes sure Kate in marketing hears every note. Along with the resident cats featured in our gallery, they all appear very confident that the home—and everyone in it—belongs to them.

Several of the resident cats featured here first stole the spotlight in the Midtown Place Pet Photo Contest, where residents shared the pets who make their apartments feel like home. The rest are beloved feline family members of our corporate team—proof that cat people can be found in every corner of MRG.

Cats have a way of making any place feel like home

Anyone who lives with a cat knows that “home” is more than an address. It’s the sunny window that becomes a favorite lookout, the quiet corner reserved for afternoon naps and the hallway that somehow turns into a racetrack at 2 a.m.

Cats may be independent, but they have a talent for becoming part of every household routine. They supervise work-from-home meetings, test the softness of freshly folded laundry and remind us—often loudly—when dinner is running behind schedule. They may not pay rent, but they certainly make their opinions known.

That is one reason pet-friendly apartment living matters. Finding the right home should mean finding a comfortable place for every member of the family, including the one with whiskers.

Pet-friendly apartments across the Memphis metro

All MRG apartment communities welcome pets. With communities across the Memphis metro and North Mississippi, plus a variety of neighborhoods, floor plans and features, residents have options when searching for a home that fits both their lifestyle and their pets.

For a cat, the ideal apartment might include a sunny perch, space for a scratching post and enough open floor for an occasional case of the zoomies. For their humans, location, comfort, convenience and dependable management matter, too. At MRG, we are proud to help residents find a place where the whole household can settle in.

If you are searching for pet-friendly apartments in Memphis or North Mississippi, explore MRG apartment communities and contact the community that catches your eye to learn about its current pet policy and available homes.

Simple ways to create a cat-friendly apartment

You do not need a major renovation to make an apartment more appealing to a cat. A few small touches can help them feel comfortable, entertained and completely in charge:

  • Make room to climb. A cat tree, sturdy window perch or other vertical space gives cats a new view of their domain.
  • Add everyday enrichment. Wand toys, crinkle balls, puzzle feeders and even an empty cardboard box can turn an ordinary afternoon into an event.
  • Create a quiet retreat. A soft bed or tucked-away blanket gives cats a comfortable place to nap when they need a little privacy.
  • Protect the favorite furniture. A well-placed scratching post gives cats an appropriate place to stretch and scratch—although they may still insist on helping with interior design.

Celebrating the cats of MRG

International Cat Day is a good reason to add a little extra playtime, take approximately 47 new photos of the same adorable pose or simply let your cat enjoy an uninterrupted nap in the best seat in the apartment.

It is also a chance for us to celebrate the pets and people who bring personality to MRG communities. Whether they are watching the world from a windowsill, hiding beneath a blanket or striking a pose in a perfectly timed patch of rainbow light, the cats in our gallery clearly know how to make themselves at home.

To our residents, our teammates and the cats who keep everyone on schedule: Happy International Cat Day! May your weekend be filled with purrs, treats and completely uninterrupted naps.

Pet fees, limits and other restrictions may apply and vary by community. Please contact the individual apartment community for complete details.
