Keep Your Pets Safe in Hot Temps

Take summer walks in the early morning!

Summer’s not over yet. Take appropriate steps to be sure your pets don’t get overheated in the heat!  While you don’t need to keep the AC full blast during the day, a temp of 78 – 80 should be reasonably comfortable for indoor pets. Also, be sure pets have plenty of fresh water – even ice water if they like it – at all times.

Fido still needs exercise and bathroom breaks, even on the hottest days, but make sure to take walks early in the morning or late in the evening, when it’s as cool as possible. And watch for any signs of overheating, like excessive panting or difficulty breathing, increased heart and respiratory rate, drooling, mild weakness, stupor or even collapse. Finally, NEVER leave your pet alone inside a parked car.
