It’s FREEZING outside! Keep it warm inside.

Drip, drip, drip.

It’s going to be COLD COLD COLD for a while. When temperatures get below freezing and stay that way for any length of time, there is a risk that pipes can freeze.

The easy fix and the one we advise for all MRG apartment residents? When temps are below freezing, let your faucets drip just slightly and the risks of a burst pipe are reduced significantly.

Why does this help? It’s not actually the flow of the water (which is why a small drip is sufficient.) Opening a faucet will provide relief from the excessive pressure that builds between the faucet and any ice blockage when freezing occurs. If there is no excessive water pressure, there is no burst pipe, even if the water inside the pipe freezes. So on those cold, cold days and nights, keep the pipes in your apartment from freezing with just a little drip – from all faucets (hot and cold).  It will also help to keep your kitchen and bathroom cabinets open so that the pipes stay warmer.

And if you are going to be gone for any extended time when the weather is calling for freezing temps, let your MRG office know.
